The all new Ipad pro

Overview:

Ever since the release of the first Ipad from Apple (2010), the way we consume multimedia and compute was bound to an alternative path. Over the years Apple has launched a batch of ipads which meet different purposes on the user end. The first generation of Ipad pros were announced and released in 2015. In this blog, I'll be writing about the Ipad features, applications in the app store that make an Ipad pro really handy and its pros and cons.

The first generation Ipad Pros:

The first generation were available in 2 variants 12.9" and the 9.7" versions. 12.9" was the largest Ipad in the apple series as well as one of the first to hit that size range in the market of tablets. Below are the technical specifications of 1st gen Ipads:

The second generation Ipad pros:

These too are available in two sizes 12.9" and 10.5". Here Apple packed a punch by introducing a new chip-set: Apple A10X embedded with the M10 processor specifically designed to deliver in case of Ipads. Technical specifications of 2nd gen ipads are:

This is were Apple made an impact and changed the way we compute by introducing hybrid tablets that can carry out most of your day to day tasks. Mixing your Ipad pro with an Apple pencil can create distinct device which is capable of both computing and artistry. On the other hand, its not only the Ipad pro that makes a statement but also the apps that are specifically targeted towards them. Next I'll be discussing the important applications that actually make a difference owning the Ipad.

Must have applications in an Ipad pro:

  • Notebility: It is a note taking app with advanced features such as recording audio while writing in parallel. Later on, the notes can be organized according to your will and accessed from the dashboard. The feature of this app that empowers the Ipad pro is that you can actually write your notes using the apple pencil seamlessly as you would on a note book. The audio play back is organized such that it displays what you have written at that particular time of recording along with audio.
  • Sketching Applications: These days #Ipadproart is gaining a lot of popularity. This is possible because of the clear cut precision of the Ipad pro synced with the Apple pencil. The precision of the Pencil is so superior that it has almost zero lag (technically 20ms). Few of the creative sketching apps are Concepts(used to vector draw) and Procreate (used to literally draw realistic drawings).
  • Photo Editing apps: With an Ipad pro we can now edit photos professionally with the help of apps like Adobe photoshop, Affinity and Lightroom which are indeed full blown applications that give you more freedom on an Ipad pro compared to that on a laptop.
  • Gaming: With a machine such as Ipad pro you would definitely want to test out cool games such as PUBG. Its new processor allows for a lag less heavy gaming which has transcended the gaming dimensions on portable devices.

Pros of an Ipad pro:

  • With a monstrous number crunching capacity,  the Ipad pro proves to be a futuristic device and can survive upcoming technology for at least a decade.
  • It provides a smooth lag less experience possible due to the 120Hz refresh rate
  •  Best usage is for note taking purposes and digital art work.
  • Beautiful, extremely thin designs. The 9.7" and 10.5" models weigh less than a pound and the 12.9" model weighs a little more than a pound and a half. Impressive.
  • All displays have a helpful anti-glare coating.
  • Excellent battery life for up to 9hrs (stipulated by apple)
  • System-wide mirroring support.
  • Cellular capable models support a wide range of 4G/LTE bands with each new model supporting more bands than the last.
  • Quality rear cameras, especially the 2nd Gen models.
  • Usable onscreen keyboard and optional external Apple Smart Keyboard make productive usage quite possible.

Cons of Ipad Pro:

  • The 12.9" models are large and heavy enough that some users may find it unwieldy, particularly to hold with one hand.
  • The original 9.7" model only has 2 GB of RAM unlike the original 12.9" model and subsequent models. This likely means that the original 9.7" model will not be usable for as long and iOS support will be more limited in the future.
  • The Apple pencil and the keyboard are sold separately which ultimately increases the cost.
  • Storage capacity cannot be upgraded and may be inadequate given increasingly large file sizes to display images and other content optimized for the high-resolution displays (not to mention recording 4K video on compatible models).
  • The charging facility for Apple pencils is by means of connecting it to the Ipad itself and by far one of the dumbest ways to charge anything for that matter.
  • The original 9.7" model only supports USB 2 rather than USB 3 like the original 12.9" model and subsequent models, so data transfer is much slower on the 9.7" model.
  • The original 12.9" model lacks 4K video support.
  • Expensive compared to other iPad models, Android tablets, and even many full featured Mac and Windows notebooks.
